Q: Why is it necessary for me to get a building permit?

A: There are two major reasons why a homeowner needs a permit on projects. The first is that city officials inspect the work at different stages to ensure it complies with current zoning, safety and building codes. Second, and most importantly, the permit process protects the investment a homeowner is making to improve the property.

Q: Who handles permitting for the city of Tucker?
A: Josh Roth is the city’s Building Official. He brings several years of experience to the job. His day-to-day responsibilities include approving permit applications, conducting inspections and clarifying code-related issues. 

Janice Law is the city’s Permit Tech. She accepts and processes all permit applications.

Q: How do I know if I need a building permit?
A: That’s easy. Tucker’s Building and Permitting team put together a very user-friendly flyer to let residents know exactly which projects require permits and which do not. You can find it on the city’s website.

Q: Do I need to go through DeKalb County for any building permits now that Tucker is officially incorporated as a city?
A: DeKalb County is still responsible for Fire Marshal duties, streets, water and sewer. The city of Tucker coordinates all necessary applications with each department involved.
