City Council Wrap-Up July 24, 2017

Tucker’s Mayor and City Council wrapped the month of July with a brief meeting Monday night at the City Hall Annex.

The meeting began with Finance Director Jennifer Davis reporting back to Council on the financial report for June. The City continues to be in solid financial standing, as the cash balance at the end of June stood at $3,339,774 in the General Fund.

Next, City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution for compliance with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statement No. 54. This statement sets standards for fund balance reporting. In the context of the City, this will dictate policy for the allocation of funds not spent in the current Fiscal Year.

Council then heard a First Read of an ordinance to adopt a Model Building Code and Building Regulations. By adopting a more standard Code, the City is seeking to improve customer service by becoming more user-friendly for contractors, homebuilders and developers. This standardized approach to building has already been adopted by cities like Milton, Newnan, Johns Creek, South Fulton and Chamblee. A final vote on the matter will take place at an upcoming City Council meeting.

During the City Manager’s Report, City Manager Tami Hanlin announced the City will host a National Night Out gathering on Tuesday August 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Idlewood Elementary School. She also coordinated with Council to schedule a Work Session on August 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the City Hall Annex.

The next regular scheduled City Council meeting will take place at the City Hall Annex (4228 First Avenue) on August 14 at 7 p.m.
