City Council Wrap-Up January 28, 2019

Tucker’s Mayor and City Council held their final January meeting on Monday night at the City Hall Annex. The biggest discussion surrounded the City’s ongoing Parks Master Plan. Barge Design Solutions, the consulting group overseeing the plan, presented preliminary recommendations to the Council. They will fine-tune the plan and come up with specific financial projections before presenting a final draft of the plan in the spring.

Mayor Auman then made a formal call for a Charter Review Commission. This commission is required for communities by the end of their third year of cityhood. Each state legislator representing a part of Tucker, the Mayor and City Council will each get to make appointments to the body.

The Mayor and Council also cast a unanimous vote to reappoint all five members of the City Planning Commission. Frank Sapp, Steve Smith and Jessica Vargas were appointed to one-year terms, while Katherine Atteberry and Michael Thomas were both appointed to two-year terms.

They also voted unanimously to provide funding for Phase One of a plan to build a sidewalk along the southside of Elmdale Road from Fellowship Road to Tucker Industrial Road. Lowe Engineers will execute a survey of storm water structures and utilities along the stretch. The survey and construction documentation, which will not exceed $34,430, will give the City a shovel-ready project to apply for funding in the next round of Community Development Block Grants.

The next City Council meeting will be February 11 at 7 p.m. at the City Hall Annex (4228 First Avenue)
