Tucker Hosting Trail Mix Hike at Smoke Rise Park

smoke-rise-park-(2)TUCKER, Ga. (April 2, 2019) – The City of Tucker is rewarding hikers at one of its parks with a sweet treat. The City is teaming up with Friends of Smoke Rise Park to host a Trail Mix Hike Wednesday April 3 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The event will be highlighted by a guided hike at 7 p.m. led by Mayor Frank Auman and First Lady Gaye Auman.

“Smoke Rise Park is a gem and we hope this Trail Mix Hike will give folks a reason to come out and explore the beautiful hiking trails,” said Tucker Parks and Recreation Director Rip Robertson.

The concept behind the hike is that participants start out with an empty bag and, throughout the course of a half-mile hike, they collect ingredients at stations along the way. By the end of the hike, they have a full bag of trail mix. Those who are driving to the park are encouraged to park across Hugh Howell Road at Smoke Rise Elementary School. Police will be on hand to assist with crossings ahead of the 7 p.m. guided hike.

The Trail Mix Hike is the second of three events organized by Tucker’s Parks and Recreation staff to keep families active during Spring Break. On Monday, dozens of people hiked Henderson Park for a Photo Scavenger Hunt. Peters Park will host a free youth basketball clinic on Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Details on the basketball clinic can be found at tuckerga.gov/parks.

There are more than 300 acres of parkland within the City of Tucker. The City assumed responsibility for its parks and the Tucker Recreation Center from DeKalb County in 2018.
