City of Tucker Introduces New Communications Tools

TUCKER, Ga. (April 27, 2017) – The City of Tucker’s Communications Department is again offering residents and business owners more options when it comes to staying engaged in what’s happening with the City.

This week the City rolled out its own accounts on Instagram and NextDoor, adding to existing social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

“As we look at new communications options, it’s really about connecting with our community,” explained City Communications Coordinator Matt Holmes. “Research shows Instagram users are overwhelmingly members of the Millenial generation, by as much as a nine-to-one margin. As we try to attract more recent college graduates and young professionals to Tucker, we have to be able to reach them. Instagram is already helping us do that.”

With nearly 80 million users in the United States, Instagram’s photo-based platform is among the most popular social media channels among young people and women.

Introduced in 2011, Nextdoor operates on a more grassroots level and connects individual neighborhoods within a community. The Tucker area already has nearly 50 different neighborhood accounts on Nextdoor.

“Nextdoor is less about reaching new people and more about better connecting with the folks who already call Tucker home,” Holmes said. “We expect this to be a great tool to let individual neighborhoods know about road closures, special events and other things happening right down the street.”

In less than a year’s time, the City of Tucker has laid out a social media footprint that reaches thousands of people each day, enabling dissemination of breaking public safety news and community events at a moment’s notice.
