City Council Wrap-Up April 24, 2017

Tucker’s City Council held the second of two regular called meetings for the month of April on Monday night, the first event held at the new City Hall Annex.

The Council heard a first read of a petition to annex five properties on and around E. Ponce de Leon Ave. on the south side of the City. A final vote on that annexation will likely happen at the City Council meeting on May 8.

Council then examined boundaries of a proposed Downtown Development Authority (DDA). This was just a discussion with no formal action taken. A DDA, if instituted, would be an appointed body focused on spurring redevelopment in the City of Tucker.

The highlight of the meeting was a mayoral proclamation declaring April 24, 2017 to be Tucker Historical Society day. This proclamation comes 125 years to the day that the first train rolled through what we now know as the City of Tucker.

The next City Council meeting is a special called meeting on Wednesday night where the Georgia State University Heritage Preservation Program will present some ideas on a possible Tucker Historic District
