As Executive Director, I welcome you to YMCA programming on behalf of the Wade Walker Park Family YMCA staff and our YMCA Association support team. As indicated in the letter you received from the City of Tucker Recreation Center, we look forward to partnering with you, the families, to offer state-licensed after school care for your child.
At our three-story, 62,000 square feet facility located at 5605 Rockbridge Road Stone Mountain, GA 30088, your child will be exposed to Fit for Life programs, swimming, STEM classes, indoor and outdoor activities, snacks and dinner meals, and free family access to the Wade Walker YMCA facility at any time! Most importantly, your child will have all of these great, new opportunities without any disruption to your normal routine. Your child be will picked up from the school, delivered to the YMCA for after school programming, and transported back to the Tucker Recreation Center for parent sign out between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
So that you can get to know us, the YMCA, better, we are hosting two (2) orientation classes at the Wade Walker Park Family YMCA. This will give you an opportunity to meet our staff, ask questions and tour the facility. We want you to feel comfortable entrusting the care of your child to our licensed staff. Orientations will be held December 27th and January 2nd from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. If you have immediate questions, or are unable to attend these dates, please feel free to call the dedicated after school information line established for your introduction to the YMCA at (678) 578-1220 between 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Friday December 22nd through Wednesday, December 27th. After December 27th, please phone our facility directly via 678-781-9622 for assistance.

- Why is the Tucker After School Program moving to the Wade Walker YMCA?
The City is partnering with the Wade Walker YMCA to provide a quality program. The existing program and facility at the Recreation Center will be undergoing some improvements and new licensing as well. Throughout the process of improvements and licensing, we will be evaluating the program and location to determine the future of this very important program. We will be counting on the parents to provide feedback and help us improve.
- How will my child get to the YMCA?
Just like the current procedure in place at the City of Tucker Recreation Center, the YMCA will pick your child up from the school and deliver him/her to the Wade Walker Park Family YMCA facility.
- Where do I pick up my child?
The YMCA will return all children to the City of Tucker Recreation Center by 5:30 p.m. Our staff will stay with the children until an authorized parent or guardian picks him/her up. Please note, 6:30 p.m. is the latest pick up time. Fines will be incurred after 6:30 p.m.
- What are the benefits of a YMCA collaboration?
The YMCA has over 37 years of after school experience in the Greater Atlanta area. Our three-story, over 62,000 square feet facility at the Wade Walker Park Family YMCA provides great opportunities in expertise, space, licensing, and access to free memberships for all families.
- Who are the staff?
The YMCA is regulated by the State. Our program is required to abide by high regulatory standards. Therefore, all of our staff are trained and monitored by the State, which includes criminal records checks, training and quality ratings.
- Can I pick up my child from the YMCA?
Yes; just indicate your request on the formal application request you will be provided, and we will hold your child at the YMCA under the care of licensed staff until pick up by an authorized parent/guardian.
