TUCKER, Ga. (November 29, 2018) – The City of Tucker’s Parks and Recreation Department is trying out a new way to spread some cheer this holiday season. Advent Acts of Kindness will provide staff and members of the community with creative ways to serve one another and promote kindness throughout the month of December.
“This will be our first Christmas running the Tucker Recreation Center,” said Recreation Leader Crystal Dawson. “We wanted to find some fun ways to really embrace the spirit of the season and we thought that Acts of Kindness were an exciting way to achieve that.”
Each day, the calendar – which will be posted physically inside the Tucker Recreation Center and virtually on the Tucker Parks webpage – will unveil a new act of kindness that staff will be performing. Some will be special treats or activities for people who come to the Recreation Center, while others can be performed out in the community or inside the home.
“We are really hoping for this to spread throughout Tucker, so we hope people will take pictures and share them to social media to encourage their friends and followers to join in,” Dawson said.
Photos and accounts of these Acts of Kindness can be shared on social media with the #tkrkindness hashtag or sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. These photos submitted by the community may ultimately be shared on the City’s social media channels or on the tuckerga.gov/parks webpage. The first act will be revealed on Saturday morning and acts will continue on through Christmas Day.
Tucker’s Parks and Recreation Department oversees the operation of almost 300 acres of parkland, as well as the busiest recreation center in DeKalb County. The City assumed responsibility for this service from the County in early 2018.
