“Dumplin’”, starring Jennifer Aniston, shot inside Tucker Recreation Center
TUCKER, Ga. (December 10, 2018) – The Tucker Parks and Recreation Department will host a free screening of the Netflix original movie “Dumplin’” at Tucker Recreation Center on Thursday night starting at 7 o’clock. The film, starring Jennifer Aniston and featuring music by Dolly Parton, was shot last year at Tucker Rec Center.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for us to showcase the Rec Center,” said Parks and Recreation Director Rip Robertson. “If you watch the movie, you’ll see some pivotal scenes were shot inside our auditorium. It’s not one of those things where it glances by you on the screen and you might miss it. It’s unmistakable, that’s Tucker Rec Center.”
The film was released on Netflix on December 7 to critical acclaim. It tells the story of a young Texas girl who, looking to build her self-confidence, decides to enter a beauty pageant. The movie is based on the New York Times bestselling book by Julie Murphy.
“This screening is really due to our great partnership with the DeKalb Entertainment Commission,” explained City-Community Connector Sonja Szubski. “Through their great work, location scouts know Tucker as a destination for television and movie shoots.”
The movie screening will be free and open to the first 100 patrons. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie will begin at 7:00. Free popcorn will be provided by volunteers from Friends of Tucker Recreation Center.
Tucker has been home to dozens of productions in recent years, including the Emmy-winning “Stranger Things” and the Oscar-winning “I, Tonya”.
