Tucker's Movie on Main Moving Indoors

rain-forecastTUCKER, Ga. (June 6, 2019) – Due to the threat of inclement weather, the City of Tucker’s Movie on Main event will be moved indoors to the Tucker First United Methodist Church activities center at 4315 Church Street. With the location change comes a change in showtime; the feature movie The Rookie will now start at 7:30 with doors opening at 6:45.

“We may have a window Friday night where the weather holds off for an outdoor show,” said Tucker’s City-Community Connector Sonja Szubski, “but with the setup time necessary for the movie and all the associated activities we have planned, the rain will get in the way at some point. We are grateful to Tucker First for their willingness to host us for this event and we look forward to giving the community a proper Movie on Main experience later this summer.”

Movie on Main is the kickoff to the popular TKR Summer of Fun events series. Moviegoers will enjoy the inspirational and uplifting film The Rookie starring Dennis Quaid. Released in 2002, the movie tells the story of high school science teacher Jim Morris and his improbable route to becoming a Major League Baseball player. The Rookie is rated G and is appropriate for all ages. Viewers are welcome to bring food from home or from area restaurants to enjoy during the film. The City will also be handing out free bags of gourmet popcorn. Out of respect for the event’s hosts, no alcohol will be allowed.

Next month, the TKR Summer of Fun continues with the July 3 Celebration of Independence and Fireworks Spectacular. The show, produced by East Coast Pyrotechnics, will be visible throughout the downtown area and will be accompanied by a street festival with live music and food trucks on Main Street.

The series wraps up on August 6 at Tucker’s National Night Out celebration. The community picnic has rotated among Tucker’s cluster elementary schools and this year will take place at Brockett Elementary. The community will be treated to a free dinner and games, while getting a chance to meet many of the men and women of Tucker’s Police Precinct.

For the second straight year, the TKR Summer of Fun will be made possible through partnerships with local corporate sponsors and community groups. Series sponsors include Discover DeKalb, Jacobs Engineering and OTTMA. Hall of Fame sponsors are Tucker-Northlake CID, Tucker Summit CID and Optech. The All-Star event sponsors are Tucker Brewing Company, Infinite Realities and InterDev.
