TUCKER, Ga. (June 19, 2019) – The Fourth of July holiday is right around the corner and the City of Tucker is ready to dive in! Tucker’s Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to take part in the City’s first-ever Fourth of July Cookout at Kelley Cofer Park pool. There will be free food, games and competitions throughout the day as the community comes together to celebrate America’s birthday.
“As an active duty member of the United States Army Reserve, July 4 is special to me, and I know the same applies for so many people here in Tucker,” said Rip Robertson, Tucker’s Parks and Recreation Director. “We are excited to invite folks out to Kelley Cofer pool to celebrate the holiday, celebrate community and to celebrate America.”
The July 4 party begins with a cookout 12-2 p.m. The City, in partnership with Friends of Kelley Cofer Park, will be grilling up hot dogs, and serving them with juicy Georgia grown watermelons and drinks. For those with extra big appetites, there will be a hot dog eating contest at 1 o’clock.
Attendees are also invited to submit their best recipe for a pie baking contest. Whole pies must be submitted by 2 p.m. At that point, a panel of judges will sample each pie and a winner will be declared at 2:30. After the winner is declared, remaining pie will be sliced up and served to those in attendance.
The highlight of the day will take place inside the pool at 3 o’clock, as swimmers have a chance to take part in the cannonball contest. Judges will score divers on criteria like splash and creativity as they seek to crown Tucker’s top cannonballer.
