Residents Can Explore Tucker Outdoors With New App

TUCKER, Ga. (October 27, 2017) – The City of Tucker is giving residents and visitors a new tool to help explore the City’s parks and recreation facilities. Tucker Outdoors is a free application that can be found on the City’s tuckerga.gov website.

“One of the questions I’ve gotten a lot since I started here in Tucker is ‘where are your parks? How do I locate them?’” explains Parks & Recreation Director Rip Robertson. “It seemed like a pretty obvious thing, but when you look, there was no really reliable source that listed all of the parks and their amenities. Now, with Tucker Outdoors, we have that.”

Tucker Outdoors is an interactive map created by the City’s GIS Department that features each of Tucker’s parks, as well as Tucker Recreation Center. Users can look for different amenities at each spot from tennis to hiking and even public restrooms.

“This is a starting point for the City as we assume responsibility for the parks,” says app developer Tunan Hu. “Over the coming months, we will utilize new technologies to help people better explore the parks and ensure they know about all the improvements happening in the parks.”

The app is the result of a months-long effort, which included a team of volunteers from Tucker High School travelling the City to document which amenities exist in which parks.
