City of Tucker, DeKalb County Partner on New Dock at Henderson Park

dockTUCKER, Ga. (September 27, 2019) – The continued partnership between the City of Tucker and DeKalb County is yielding more progress, this time in Henderson Park where a brand-new dock is being installed on the banks of Lake Erin. The dock will be christened with a ribbon cutting on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock.

“The dock was planned as part of the initial renovation for Henderson Park dating back to late 2016,” said Tucker’s Parks and Recreation Director Rip Robertson. “Those plans included several projects we’ve already completed and we’re excited to add this dock to the list.”

Over the past few years, the City and County have teamed up to make improvements in Henderson Park including resurfacing of the tennis courts, bridge and boardwalk improvements along the park’s White Trail, and a new playground at the park’s Community Garden. For the dock project, the City was able to work with the County to assume direct responsibility thanks in large part to $50,000 in additional funding from County Commissioner Nancy Jester. Construction was completed in just under 90 days from when the project bid was awarded.

“The new dock is double the size of the old dock and now features handrails and benches for park goers to sit and enjoy the beauty of the lake and its wildlife,” Robertson explained.

The City of Tucker assumed responsibility for its parks and recreation assets from DeKalb County in 2018. The two sides have continued a cooperative partnership across several service areas following Tucker’s incorporation as a city in 2016.
