Tucker Businesses Compete to Show Holiday Cheer

Many of Tucker’s businesses are decking their halls this holiday season, and for good reason.

A group of community organizations came together for the fifth consecutive year to host the Christmas Holiday Decorating Contest. The contest invites Tucker businesses to compete for cash prizes by decorating their front windows in the colors and styles of the season.

The effort is a collaboration between the Tucker Business Association, Main Street Tucker Alliance, Tucker Historical Society and Tucker Civic Association.

“We want [businesses] to feel part of the community and to make certain that the community, as a whole, realizes that they’re here,” says Honey Van De Kreke, incoming president of the Tucker Business Association.

Van De Kreke says organizers of the contest handed out hundreds of invitations to local businesses, then toured the city to judge the decorations and award the winners.

The goal, Van De Kreke says is “to stimulate awareness of all the businesses that are in Tucker. Our motto is to ‘think globally and shop locally.’”

Businesses were divided into three categories for the judging, with $200 awarded for first place, $125 for second place and certificates presented for other noteworthy efforts.
