First Friday concert seriesApril showers have brought us May flowers and hopefully lots of sunshine as we kick off Tucker’s summer events. As we mentioned last month, the City has added some extra fun to the TKR Summer of Fun schedule. We are very excited for our inaugural First Friday Concert Series. Live music is something many in our community have asked for, so with the new Church Street greenspace and the soon to be developed downtown park, we will host our First Fridays from May to September (July will be included with the Independence Day Celebration on Main Street).

The first band to the stage will be the Nathan Angelo Band, www.nathanangelo.com, from Greenville, SC. The stage will be set and music will begin at 6:30 pm on Friday May 6. This band will bring their own original music as well as cranking up the crowd with fan favorite covers. Bring the whole family and start your weekend with a bang.

On June 3 we will bring you a longtime Atlanta favorite classic rock (think Fleetwood Mac) band. The Woody’s have been entertaining crowds from downtown to Lake Lanier and everywhere in between. You can find them on Facebook at facebook.com/thewoodysatl and will certainly enjoy the evening. They are family friendly, and many will recognize the lead singer and guitarist from several activities here in Tucker.  They are sure to bring a lot of fun to Tucker.

Right in the middle of our concert series, is the Fifth Annual Independence Day Celebration. The fireworks will be incredible, with live music from The Vibe. Main Street will rock while we wait for the sun to set. There will be great giveaways so get there early for the best ones. We’re adding fun games and activities for the kids this year, too. In addition to our fabulous Main Street restaurants there will be fun options including wurst/dogs, queso/nachos, BBQ and more from the scheduled food trucks.

In August we’ll  be back at Church Street and bringing you the very energetic Mike Veal Band (www.mikevealband.com). They are a high energy, fun and engaging dance band that will surely get you on your feet. They have been bringing their fun performances to the Atlanta area for years. There will be something for everyone on this night.

Our final concert will be on September 2. This will be the most fun all summer, with A1A.  They are the official Jimmy Buffett cover band. This group will have everyone up, swaying, dancing and have a blast. Bring your parrot apparel and close the summer with a fantastic finale. You can find more information about these fantastic entertainers at a1a-live.com.

Another of our big summer events is the annual Adult Field Day on May 14 from 5 – 8 p.m.. We’ll be grilling hot dogs and burgers along with vegetarian options, and some of our local partners will be providing refreshments and prizes. It’s not too late to get out and play. Check out the video on Facebook and begin preparing for the Big Wheel races! Registration is still open (tuckerga.gov/parks)!

Don’t delay purchasing your pool membership for the upcoming season. Both pools, Cofer and Rosenfeld, will open with a pre-season session on May 21 and 22 and then open for the season on Saturday, May 28. Our schedules are available online at tuckerga.gov/parks with full information on times and annual and daily prices.
