City of Tucker Welcomes New Finance Director

Toni Jo JowardTUCKER, Ga. (July 2, 2019) – In another first for the young City of Tucker, the City appointed its first-ever Finance Director on Monday. Toni Jo Howard takes the position with a wealth of experience in municipal government and accounting.

“Toni Jo is going to be a tremendous asset for Tucker,” said City Manager Tami Hanlin. “As we continue our focus on financial responsibility and balanced budgeting, her expertise will be key in keeping Tucker a model for fiscal stewardship.”

Howard has an extensive background in the Metro Atlanta area, having handled finances in the Cities of Johns Creek and Smyrna. She most recently worked as Citywide Financial Reporting Manager for the City of Seattle, Washington.

“I’m happy to be back home here in Georgia and especially happy to join Team Tucker,” Howard said. “The opportunity to be the first Finance Director was appealing to me, as I will be able to establish policies and procedures in a proactive manner rather than being reactive. I look forward to helping the City staff and leadership move forward as we tackle short- and long-term budgeting goals in this growing city.”

The City of Tucker was incorporated thanks to 74 percent support on a 2015 cityhood referendum. This spring, the Mayor and City Council passed a $13.7 million balanced budget, which includes around $8 million in expenditures for City operations and approximately $5 million in capital projects funded from the general fund.
