Benefits & Compensation

Benefits Plan Year – January 1, 2026 thru December 31, 2026

The value of your total annual compensation includes your pay plus the cost of City provided benefits.

INSURANCE

Full-Time Employees are eligible to participate in the City’s insurance plans. Coverage will be effective the first of the month following date of hire. For example, if employee is hired on April 11, then effective date of coverage will be May 1. If the new employee’s hire date falls on the first day of the month, their health insurance coverage will be effective starting that same day. If the first day of the month is a holiday, the effective date of coverage remains the same; it will begin on the first day of the month, regardless of the holiday.

  • Health Insurance – Medical-Anthem and Pharmacy-Aetna Coverage is offered through the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). The options are between the GMA’s PPO or POS plan designs.  The City pays 85% of the Medical Premium.
  • Dental Insurance – Coverage through Anthem. 
  • Vision Insurance – Coverage through Anthem.
  • Group Basic Life Insurance – Coverage through The Standard. The City of Tucker provides life insurance to all full-time employees at no cost in the amount of $50,000. 
  • Voluntary Life Insurance – Coverage through The Standard. 
  • Group Short-Term Disability (STD) Insurance – Coverage through The Standard paid for by the City. This benefit will provide income protection in the event of a disability as the result of an illness or accident that occurs off the job. This plan can replace up to 60% of your pre-disability earnings up to $1,000 per week starting on the first day if injured or on the 8th day for sickness and will continue to pay for up to 90 days. 
  • Group Long-Term Disability (LTD) Insurance – Coverage through The Standard paid for by the City. This benefit offers income protection in the event of a disability as the result of an illness or accident. This plan can replace up to 60% of your pre-disability earnings up to $10,000 per month once you have been disabled for 90 days and will continue to pay up until your disability ends or you reach age 65.
  •  AFLAC – If an employee is interested in enrolling in plans such as cancer, critical illness, accident, hospital confinement, or supplemental dental, an Aflac representative will be able to explain the benefits and help the employee enroll.
  • Employee Assistance Program – All Full-Time and Part-Time Employees have access to a very robust Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through The Standard. This program is free for employees and offers work-life services with up to 6 face-to-face visits with a licensed professional counselor per employee/family member.
  • Georgia First Responder PTSD Program – All Marshals have coverage fully insured by MetLife under Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency (GIRMA) paid for by the City.

NOTE: Premiums/Contributions (Sec. 125 Plan)Health, Dental, and Vision Contributions are all deducted from the employee’s pay on a pre-tax basis (exempt from FICA, federal and state tax) which in turn provides significant cost savings. Employees will be able to make changes to any of their benefit elections during the Open Enrollment period and all changes will take effect on January 1. After Open Enrollment, the employee’s elections cannot be changed until the next annual Open Enrollment unless the employee experience a Qualifying Life Event (e.g., marriage, divorce, death of a spouse or child, birth or adoption of child or change of employment of your spouse as detailed in the Section 125 Regulations).

401(a) and 457(b) Retirement – The City offers both the 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan and the 457(b) Voluntary Retirement Plan to all Full-Time and Part-Time Employees.

  • 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan: Employees are automatically enrolled on their hire date, with the City contributing 10% of base pay—no employee contribution required. No waiting period. Immediately Vested 100%. The employee may be penalized if distributions taken prior to age 59 ½.
  • 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan: Employees may choose to contribute, with the City providing an employer match of up to 4% of pay. No waiting period. Immediately Vested 100%.

Peace Officers’ Annuity & Benefit Fund of Georgia – Full-Time Marshals are eligible to enroll and must be a P.O.S.T. Certified Peace Officer employed at a Georgia P.O.S.T. recognized agency. This Retirement benefit program fund provides two separate benefits for members. The Retirement benefit is provided to all members who have met the Vesting Requirements of retirement. At retirement, a member can choose to designate survivor benefits to a spouse. The death benefit is provided to the member’s beneficiary. Paid for by the City.

  • To qualify for forgiveness, the employee must have made 120 qualifying payments on my Direct Loans while employed full-time by the City. Neither the 120 qualifying payments nor employment must be consecutive.
  • Eligible Loans are loans made under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program that are not in default.
  • Qualifying employment includes Federal, State, Local, or Tribal government organization, agency, or entity.

Job Postings

Once an open position is approved for recruitment, HR will generate job announcements on the city’s website and post the announcements on designated websites. Appropriate external recruitment sources will vary depending on the vacancy and will be determined by HR and the hiring manager.

Job posting application deadline will have either an Open-Until-Filled or a specific deadline which time applications must be received to be considered for the position.

Although an internal applicant is not required to notify their supervisor that they have applied for a position, the supervisor will be notified should they apply for the position. If hired for the position, the current and the new supervisor will work together to determine an appropriate transfer date.

The City Management has authority to change this policy at any time.
