Written by William Missouri Downs and directed by Maria Karres-Williams,  the plot centers on actress Jessica Bisset, who auditioned for the role of Ophelia in an all-female New York stage production of “Hamlet.” Instead, she was offered the title role. Most actors would be thrilled by the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but Jessica struggles with self-introspection and doubt while deciding whether to accept the prestigious part or take a lucrative offer to perform in a TV soap opera. Amid echos of some of Hamlet’s best-known themes, she receives advice and commentary from a range of vivid characters including a psychiatrist, a ghost and a model from the Home Shopping Network.
