February 9, 2026

February 9, 2026 (Tucker, GA) – Last week, the offices of Congressman Hank Johnson announced the recipients of their 2026 appropriations funding. The City of Tucker is proud to accept $850,000 towards the trail project named The Greenway Connector. This section of the master trailway connects the residential neighborhood of Peters Park to retail and restaurants along Hugh Howell Road.
The award is due, in part, to the hard work and advocacy of District 1 Councilwoman Virginia Rece.
“This funding reflects the power of strong partnerships and shared priorities,” said Tucker Mayor Anne Lerner. “We’re grateful to Mayor Pro Tem Virginia Rece for championing this effort and for Representative Johnson for securing federal support that helps Tucker advance our trail system and strengthens regional connectivity. Working together across all levels of government allows us to deliver real, lasting improvements for our residents.”
Upon hearing of the award, Councilwoman Virginia Rece shared, “I’m so pleased and tremendously grateful to receive the news that Representative Hank Johnson has secured federal funding for the Greenway Connector, a project that will connect our neighbors to businesses and continue to expand our trail network. We appreciate that Congressman Johnson recognizes that we are striving to deliver projects that improve the quality of life for all in our community.”
The Greenway Connecter has an estimated total cost of around $6 million and this $850,000 will go towards engineering and design of the trail.
