Code Compliance Certificate Process for Multifamily Buildings

On June 27, 2018, the City of Tucker passed an ordinance that requires multi-family rental dwellings of four (4) or more units to be inspected for compliance with adopted codes. The multi-family inspection program is designed to:

  • Preserve property values, promote economic vitality and crime prevention, and ensure safe, healthy, and clean environments; and
  • Promote ongoing investment in upkeep and maintenance.

Per the City of Tucker Code of Ordinances Section 10-518, 10-519, 10-520 properties must be inspected by a Certified Building Inspector, and a Certificate of Compliance certifying the units pass inspection must be submitted annually with the renewal of the required Occupational Tax Certificate.

Application Process for Certified Building Inspectors

The City of Tucker is opening the application process for certified building inspectors to complete independent inspections of multifamily properties within the city.

Per the City of Tucker Code of Ordinances Section 10-518, 10-519, 10-520 properties must be inspected by a Certified Building Inspector, and a Certificate of Compliance certifying the units pass inspection must be submitted annually with the renewal of the required Occupational Business License.

In order to be considered a Certified Building Inspector, you must meet the minimum requirements:

“At a minimum, a certified building inspector shall be a licensed architect or engineer or shall hold one of the following certifications from the International Code Council: property maintenance and housing inspector, housing rehabilitation inspector, commercial building inspector, residential building inspector, or building plan examiner.”

*The list of permissible ICC certifications was expanded by O2025-09-16 on October 14, 2025.

Submittal Requirements

All applications shall include the following information:

  1. Letter of Introduction
    Briefly describe the firm; and the name, address, e-mail, and phone number of the primary contact person. 
  2. Firm Profile
    Provide a brief description of your firm’s size and organization structure.
  3. ICC Certifications/State License
    Provide copies of all certifications or state license to verify qualifications of all inspectors that will be making required inspections.
