City of Tucker Announces New Legal Services Contract

May 12, 2022

Tucker, Ga. (May 12, 2022) – The City of Tucker has accepted a letter of engagement for Legal Services with Thompson, Sweeny, Kinsinger & Pereira, P.C. completing the Request for Proposal (RFP) process started back in February of this year. The law firm will perform a variety of services including providing legal advice to the Mayor, Council and City Staff, attending meetings for City business, boards and departments, and drafting legal agreements and ordinances.

In addition to contracting for legal services, the City will appoint Ted Baggett of Thompson, Sweeney, Kinsinger & Pereira as City Attorney at the end of June, the City’s fiscal year end. Baggett, a Georgia native and graduate of the University of Georgia Law School, comes to the City of Tucker with more than 20 years of experience working with local, state, regional and federal government officials. He has provided legal counsel, policy development, operational assistance, and advocacy services on behalf of Georgia governments through his work with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia and with the Georgia Municipal Association.

“I have watched Tucker’s success since the start of the cityhood process and I am excited to join such a dedicated team of public servants,” said Baggett. “The City was set up on a solid foundation and I look forward to being a part of its bright future.”

Tucker was established as an unincorporated part of DeKalb County in 1892. In 2015, 74 percent of voters approved Tucker’s incorporation and City services began in 2016. From start up to the present, Brian Anderson, J.D. helped draft the City Charter, served as City Attorney to the Mayor and Council, established the City’s ordinances and oversaw a Charter review process.

“Brian has been an indispensable part of Tucker’s success, working with Council, staff and me to set up the City and to guide us through our first six years of growth,” said Mayor Frank Auman. “As we continue to expand our level of service and look toward the future, we are experiencing a need for additional legal support. We are grateful to Brian for his many years of service and wish him well in all of his endeavors.”
