Tucker, Ga. (Nov. 23, 2022) – Saturday, November 26, 2022 is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do to help promote more vibrant communities.
“Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday recognizes the importance of small business retailers on main street and is a day to celebrate their role in helping local communities thrive,” said U.S. Small Business Administration Georgia District Director Terri Denison.
We know that small businesses need our support now more than ever as they navigate and retool from the effects of the pandemic. Last week representatives from the DeKalb District of the SBA visited three of the Tucker’s independent retail establishments – Kaylee’s Boutique, The Corner Cup, and Georgia Gifts and More. They talked with the businesses about their recovery strategies and shared with them some of the many resources available to support including a Small Business Saturday toolkit.
Karen Gayle, owner of Georgia Gifts and More said that they have expanded online presence and ramped up their digital media presence as one way to stay visible.
“We’re competing with Amazon and so many others,” she said. “My business can’t compete head-to- head so we really depend on people who have a heart for small business and are determined to support them. So, it’s important to continue to build that awareness for people so that they empathize with small businesses.”
As in past years, Mayor Frank Auman acknowledged the City’s ongoing commitment to its small businesses by issuing a proclamation last week in recognition of Small Business Saturday.
Mayor Auman has a heart for small business as an owner of one himself. During the proclamation ceremony he encouraged the community’s support. “Not only when you go out on that Saturday, but every day, pick a small business that maybe you haven’t been in before and make a point to buy something from somebody who runs a local business There are a lot of them around, restaurants, shops, and other types of businesses,“ he said.
Small Business Saturday® was founded by American Express in 2010 to help small business and communities flourish and has been officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011.
