WHAT’SAP WITH DCSD?

DeKalb County School District will continue the Student Assignment Project to resolve overcrowding and underutilization during the ’26-’27 academic year. Community Advisory Team interest forms were due August 25, and DCSD will select participants for this year’s team from the applicant pool.

This fall’s efforts are focused on area schools in Tucker and the surrounding Lakeside, Cross Keys, Chamblee, Dunwoody and Druid Hills clusters. Idlewood Elementary School will be impacted by this term’s decision making due. Next term’s decisions will prioritize different clusters, but all are vital to set expectations for expansions from 2027 through 2029 and the creation of a new high school cluster.

Apart from joining Community Advisory Teams, community members can also take online surveys expected to open on DCSD’s website this month. Once you have completed a survey, you may register to join an online focus group. Multiple meetings will be held in the coming months with opportunity for public comment to share your thoughts, expectations and concerns.

Idlewood Elementary is undergoing major renovations and is expected to be complete Fall 2027. The exterior will see improvements, kitchens and bathrooms will be renovated, the HVAC system will be replaced and the facilities will see increased capacity.
