Montreal Park Master Plan

The City of Tucker is always looking toward the future of our parks. This year, we have held several community engagement opportunities for the Henderson Park Master Plan and solicited residents’ feedback to guide our strategy for park improvements. Now we need your help again as we begin the Montreal Park Master Plan.

Montreal Park is a 9-acre neighborhood park that has seen the addition of a dog park in recent years, and the City recently acquired the adjacent residential parcels at 3437 and 3445 Montreal Way. The Montreal Park Master Plan will integrate this new land into the existing park footprint.

The City initially created a concept plan for Montreal Park in 2019 as a part of our first Recreation and Parks Master Plan. This concept plan included designated parking off Alcan Way, a restroom building, additional playgrounds and pavilions, a large dog park, and a sand volleyball court. Today, much of the park is still heavily wooded and undeveloped, although there are several trails meandering through the wooded area. The developed portion of the park includes a large grassy meadow, playground, open-air pavilion with picnic tables, and dog park. The main access to the park is within the residential neighborhood, off Montreal Way.

The Montreal Park Master Plan aims to create a community driven vision for Montreal Park that preserves its neighborhood character. Core principles for the design process include respect for the natural environment through the preservation of the park’s canopy, inclusive design and safety enhancements. Objectives include determining the best way to incorporate the new park properties, improving connectivity into the park, exploring options for designated parking and identifying ways to expand and improve existing amenities, such as the addition of bathroom facilities.

The process is expected to take six months and will be completed entirely in-house by City staff. Community engagement opportunities will start in September with an online survey, as well as an event in Montreal Park on September 12.
