Cara Schroeder Wins District 2 City Council Runoff

(December 1, 2021) – With over 1,200 votes counted, local businesswoman and community volunteer Cara Schroeder came out on top of Tuesday’s runoff election, claiming the open City Council seat in District 2 over Imani Barnes. Schroeder, who will succeed the term limited Matt Robbins, took 52.5 percent of the vote to Barnes’ 47.4 percent. The vote difference, according to uncertified returns from the DeKalb County Board of Elections, was 62 votes.

Schroeder will be sworn in at the City Council meeting on January 11 along with fellow newcomers Roger Orlando (District 1) and Alexis Weaver (District 3). They will be joined on Council by Virginia Rece (District 1), Noelle Monferdini (District 2) and Anne Lerner (District 3). Last month, Mayor Frank Auman comfortably won his bid for a third term in office.

The current City Council has one remaining meeting taking place on December 13 at City Hall. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
